LPF and LVT Hosting Webinar on Parking Lot Interventions

The safety and security of employees and customers is the top priority for retailers. People don’t want to shop or work where they feel threatened, which is why a growing number of stores are closing locations due to safety concerns.

The threat and perception of a threat around theft, violent behaviors, drug use, panhandling, and vandalism are on everyone’s minds. Each of these behaviors, along with other aggressive street behaviors (ASB), make the location less safe and increase the fear of crime. ASB can be verbal abuse, physical actions, or a combination. These include accosting, yelling, approaching uncomfortably close, tapping on vehicle windows, and more.

To decrease loitering around stores and increase safety, LiveView Technologies (LVT) and the Loss Prevention Research Council (LPRC) partnered and deployed mobile surveillance units in the parking lots of multiple retail locations. These units were equipped with cameras, speakers, and flashing lights used as deterrents against people loitering in parking lots. During the deployment, incidents involving violence decreased along with the fear of crime.
