Young, Armed Shoplifter Injures LP Associate

A 15-year-old boy has been charged with weapons possession after he was caught allegedly shoplifting at Macy’s in Herald Square on Saturday — and a small, BB-gun-like firearm went off and injured a (LP Associate) while he was being frisked, police said.

The boy, whose name was not released, had been caught by store loss prevention officers removing $727 in merchandise from a display rack or shelf at around 3:20 in the afternoon, police said.

He was led to a back area and was being frisked when a small firearm discharged a round, police said. The projectile injured the hand of the loss prevention officer, police said. The firearm was recovered and the loss prevention officer was treated at Bellevue Hospital.
