Guns Recovered after Violent Shoplift; 2 Arrested

Two men from Atlantic City, New Jersey, are facing a long list of charges following a violent shoplifting arrest in the city Monday afternoon. The Atlantic City Police Department says two of their officers responded to Bass Pro Shop for the report of two men shoplifting.

According to a press release, at 2:35 pm, Officers Gabriel Chevere and Syed Shah responded to the Bass Pro Shop for a report of two men shoplifting items, including a handgun magazine.

The officers attempted to place Marquis Harison in custody, but he pulled away from the officers and a violent fight ensued. While attempting to place Harison in custody, he began to punch Officer Chevere in the face, and dropped a handgun to the ground during the struggle. Harison attempted to reach for the handgun, but the officers were able to pull him away. Bass Pro Shop employees began to call 911 in an effort to get to the officers assistance. As more officers arrived, Harison was placed in custody.

Harison’s handgun was found to be stolen from Pennsylvania and loaded with hollow-point ammunition. He also had an active warrant for his arrest. The second male, Kaleef Ardis, was taken into custody without incident by responding officers. He was also found in possession of a handgun and had an active warrant. Both were remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.   [Source: WPG Radio News]
