Two Jailed after Attempted Shoplifting, Armed Robbery, High-Speed Chase

An attempted shoplifting that police say turned into an armed robbery has a man and a female companion jailed in Clinton County on numerous charges.

State police say Carlos Manuel Pachecho Cortes, 33, of Brooklyn, New York, and Sonia Santana, 22, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, of attempting to leave a Dollar General store in Beech Creek Twp. near Lock Haven just before 9 AM Friday without paying for merchandise that filled a cart.

When confronted, Cortes is alleged to have brandished a revolver, pointed it at the clerks and then with Santana left the store.

Cortes and Santana were taken into custody and charged with robbery, aggravated assault, retail theft, fleeing or eluding and receiving stolen property.

District Judge John Maggs ordered Cortes held without bail because he is accused of using a gun and has pending robbery charges from two or three months ago. Information on those charges was not available. Santana was jailed in lieu of $250,000 bail…    Penn Live
