Surveillance Images Released in Thanksgiving Shoplifting after Injured Clerk Dies

Oldham County (Kentucky) Police are releasing the first images of the suspects involved in a Thanksgiving shoplifting at the Thorntons on US Highway 42 in Prospect. The clerk on duty that night, Ralph Shain, died Thursday after being hospitalized when the thieves hit him with a car. Police have looked into a few leads, but so far none have led to any suspects. Now investigators are hoping the public can help.

Shain had become a fixture at the Thorntons store. “I would stop here pretty much every day and would get gas and doughnuts and talk to him every day,” customer Chris Meeker said. Greg Parker was also a regular customer, who always looked forward to stopping in the store. “There’s plenty of stores up and down 42 that I could get the same products from, but I would purposely go here because I wanted to say hi to Ralph,” Parker said.

For those customers the news of Shain’s death hit extra hard. According to police, Shain was working Thanksgiving night when two men came into the store. Surveillance cameras show the men going behind the counter and stealing a case of cigarettes. Investigators believe, Ralph followed them outside trying to stop them. That’s when they hit him with what appears to be a green minivan… WLKY News
