Shoplifter Gets 17 Months for Attempted Theft

Adam Scott Newquist, 24, of Bemidji, Illinois, was sentenced in Becker County District Court for felony possession of burglary tools. A felony charge of third-degree burglary was dropped in a plea agreement.

According to court records, on December 7, 2018, Newquist went inside the Detroit Lakes Walmart, in spite of being prohibited from being there, and pulled a Walmart bag out of his pocket.

He placed unpaid merchandise inside the bag, and passed all points of sale until he was stopped in the vestibule by Walmart loss prevention workers. He dropped the bag and fled in a minivan that was pulled over by police near Walmart. A folding razor blade carpenter knife… DL-Online
