Retail Veteran to Lead RILA Public Affairs

The Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA) today announced Michael Hanson will join the association as senior executive vice president for public affairs. As current COO Brian Dodge transitions to the role of RILA president in January, Hanson will assume many of his previous responsibilities, including overseeing the public affairs team. Hanson will be responsible for identifying the industry’s top public policy challenges and working with both leading retailers and key stakeholders to elevate the industry in Washington D.C. and across the country.

Hanson brings more than two decades of extensive Hill and public affairs experience to his new role with RILA. He most recently served as chief public policy officer at Sabre, a leading travel technology company, where he led legislative and regulatory strategy at the local, state and federal level. Prior to joining Sabre, he served as vice president for government affairs at JCPenney, where he was a leading contributor in shaping RILA’s top public policy priorities.

“Michael’s extensive policy background, Hill experience and knowledge of the retail industry make him uniquely suited for this role, and I’m excited to have him back advocating for retailers. Michael brings a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing the industry, and he’ll be a powerful advocate for the top priorities of leading retailers,” said RILA COO Brian Dodge. “We look forward to having Michael join the RILA team and know that our members will benefit from his leadership and vast experience in both retail and public affairs.”
