A Central Texas police officer, working off-duty security at a local mall, was injured Sunday trying to stop a shoplifter. Waco Police Sergeant Patrick Swanton said officers were called to the Dillard’s at the Richland Mall around 3:45 PM Sunday. The callers were telling dispatchers the officer was struggling with a shoplifter, Andre Boyd, and then reported that he was being dragged as Boyd tried to get away, Swanton said.

As Boyd was trying to get away, his vehicle hit five cars, and crushed the officer’s leg between two vehicles, Swanton said.
