Mayor Resigns Following Shoplifting Arrest

Following on a story we reported earlier this week, a Middle Tennessee mayor has resigned following a shoplifting arrest at a Target last month. According to the City of Fairview, Mayor John Blade submitted his resignation on Tuesday.

Under the charter, Vice Mayor Debby Rainey will serve as mayor until the 2022 election. She is currently a candidate for City Commission there. Blade was arrested in Maury County on charges of shoplifting from a Target in Spring Hill, according to police records.

Elected mayor in 2018, Blade is a longtime banker in Fairview. He turned himself in to the Maury County Sheriff’s Office last week after a report was filed over the alleged September 19 theft at the Target store at Crossings Boulevard in Spring Hill.

The store loss prevention officer stated that Blade used the self checkout and did not scan nearly $300 worth of items, including 44 household goods, three tweezers, and one skin care item, according to the Spring Hill Police report…  The Tennessean
