Man Confronted About Shoplifting Kills Himself

A suspected shoplifter shot himself Monday night when police at a Walmart in South Carolina confronted him, Anderson County Coroner Greg Shore said. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) is investigating after police approached a man who killed himself behind the Sam’s Club on Liberty Highway in Anderson, officials with SLED said. SLED was called after a man, who was suspected of shoplifting, left Walmart and walked behind the Sam’s Club before killing himself. The man was armed and when confronted by police, he pulled out a gun and shot himself in the head, Shore said. The coroner said it doesn’t appear officers were involved in the shooting, but they did witness it. He was taken to the hospital and was still breathing, but he died on arrival, Shore said.
