Hardware Store Employee Charged in $20,000 Theft

An employee of the Busy Beaver hardware store in White Oak, Pennsylvania, is accused of stealing more than $20,000 from the store. According to a criminal complaint, Tammy Louise Hofmeister, 54, admitted to police that she would open plastic deposit bags and steal money.

Police said Hofmeister admitted to stealing money on at least two occasions to pay bills and an attorney and also told police she once placed a large sum of money in her purse that was either misplaced or stolen from her.

Police also said paper trail evidence presented to them by a Busy Beaver official showed Hofmeister was the person responsible for stealing the money, which added up to $20,925.27. Police said Hofmeister will be charged with theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property.   [Source: WTAE4 Action News]
