Bob Tavenner Remembered as an LP Pioneer

Robert “Bob” H. Tavenner passed away November 18, 2019, at age 76. He was vice president of loss prevention for Gold Circle and Value City Stores. During his career, Tavenner mentored many current and former senior loss prevention executives who have made a significant impact on the retail security and asset protection industry.

John Voytilla, now senior vice president of construction, facilities, procurement, and LP at Party City, started his career on Tavenner’s team at Gold Circle, a regional discount department store based in Columbus, Ohio. He recalled, “Bob was a true pioneer leading and developing a proactive loss prevention organization. He had a vision to build a team that was well trained, balanced with strong leadership skills, and continuous learning of required technical skills. At Gold Circle, Bob ensured loss prevention was integrated into the company culture. His professionalism and leadership was respected and emulated by his team.”

Born and raised Lorain, Ohio, Tavenner served in the US Navy on the USS Kirwin as a radarman and machine repairman. He was an active and committed parishioner of St. Paul Catholic Church in Westerville, Ohio, for over 40 years. He was also actively involved and touched the lives of many at Kindway Prison Ministries, CumChristo, Kairos, St. Vincent de Paul, and Knights of Columbus.
