Customer Aggression and Violence and the Impact on Associates

In this session we take a closer look at some winning strategies to help keep employees safe in the face of growing aggression and violence in the retail workplace. Psychologist Gethin Nadin talks about the need for every customer-facing team to be more aware of the ways increased customer aggression is affecting employees—and the result of inaction. For retailers struggling to attract and retain employees, understanding the best ways to support employee well-being plays a large part in how we retain quality talent.

What’s NEW in ORC Technology

The tools of technology open doors and minds to the exponential power of information with better results and less effort. We fight ORC by working hard—but also by working smart; making the best use of the tools at our disposal and searching for the best path to lead us forward, support our needs, and reach positive outcomes. In this discussion we focus on the effective use of technology, some of the latest tools used today against the onslaught of organized retail crime, and how your teams can benefit by staying current and informed.

Dissecting Success: Scalding a Major ORC Network in Chicago

In this presentation we break down the value of partnerships when building successful organized retail crime investigations. A highly successful 2022 ORC investigation in the greater Chicago market required a number of retailers and law enforcement agencies to all work together to construct and execute a case involving millions of dollars in retail merchandise. Special Agent Brian Sampson with Homeland Security Investigations and Frank Patercity with Kroger offer their perspectives to help us better understand the importance of these relationships, factors critical to building a strong investigation, and the retail and law enforcement partnerships that help bring these types of cases together.

Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) is the principal investigative arm of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, responsible for investigating transnational crime and threats, specifically those criminal organizations that exploit the global infrastructure through which international trade, travel, and finance move. In response to the threat of organized retail crime, HSI is leading a collaborative approach under Operation Boiling Point by utilizing their expertise and unique authorities and leveraging private and public partnerships to disrupt and dismantle organized theft groups.

Frank Patercity

Frank Patercity is the director of corporate security, investigations, and organized retail crime at Kroger. With diverse experience covering several investigative verticals, Patercity leads a team of seasoned investigators across the country charged with disrupting and dismantling complex organized retail crime networks. In addition to his ORC duties, Frank is responsible for leading Kroger’s Threat Assessment & Management and Protective Intelligence/Executive Protection functions.
