15-Year-Old Shoplifting Suspect Killed in Crash after Police Chase

A 15-year-old boy killed in a police chase crash Friday in Dolton, Illinois, was a suspect in a shoplifting incident in Calumet City police said. Officers responding to a 3 PM call at the Macy’s store in River Oaks Center arrested one suspect while three others fled in a stolen, dark-colored vehicle, according to Calumet City police. The suspects’ car was pulled over by police but the driver fled when the officer approached on foot, reports said. After a short police chase, the vehicle crashed at Sibley Boulevard and Chicago Road in Dolton. Ryan Thomas, of Dolton, was identified as the victim by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office. He was pronounced dead at 3:40 p.m. Friday at Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey. The names of the two other suspects, both taken to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, have not been released. Charges are pending, police said.
