As retailers prepare for the busy holiday shopping season, safety and security measures remain a major focus to keep workers and shoppers safe. But how effectively do these measures address the everyday realities and concerns of retail workers?
In order to help better understand retail workers’ perspectives about safety, Motorola Solutions surveyed over 1,000 retail managers and staff. The results of its second annual US Retail Worker Safety Report reveal a desire for enhanced safety and security measures to help keep them safer at work.
Access the report now for insights on how crime is impacting workplace safety, retailers can help employees feel safer, and technology that can help respond in a crisis. Key findings include:
- One in four retail workers has considered leaving their job: Safety and security concerns go beyond what’s happening in stores, impacting some employees as they come and go, even during daylight hours.
- Technology solutions can boost feelings of safety: While respondents pointed to access control systems, license plate readers, panic buttons, and body cameras as measures that make them feel safer, few retail workers reported having these measures in place.
- Holiday understaffing is causing safety concerns: Over 65 percent of retail workers said they expect to be understaffed this holiday season, and this impacts how safe they feel.
