Store Manager Lied about Armed Robbery

The manager of an Oswego County Family Dollar is behind bars after state police said she stole $3,000 from the store and then reported an armed robbery to cover up the theft.

Kathryn E. Smith, 33, of Hannibal, is charged with falsely reporting that a robbery occurred at the store, located at 518 State Route 13 in Williamstown.

State police were called to the store Monday, December 7 at 10:24 PM for a reported robbery. There, troopers spoke with Smith, who police said told them that she was getting into her vehicle when a man approached her, displayed a knife and demanded money. She told police that the man made off with $3,000 in cash and ran off behind the building.

However, state police said they later located the stolen money inside Smith’s vehicle. Smith was charged with third-degree grand larceny, a felony, as well as third-degree falsely reporting an incident, a misdemeanor.

Smith was arraigned in Williamstown Town Court and sent to the Oswego County Jail without bail…   Syracuse.com
