One person was shot and killed Friday night outside a grocery store in Downtown San Diego, according to police.
The victim was shot near the Ralph’s store at 101 G street just before 9:30 p.m., according to SDPD Officer Darius Jamsetjee.
Police say there was a confrontation inside the store with a shoplifter and a security guard. During the confrontation, the security guard was injured when he pulled out his weapon and shot the shoplifter, said Lieutenant t. Andra Brown with the San Diego Police Department.
Medics were called to the scene to give first aid to the person who was shot, and also to the security guard who suffered a concussion and lacerations, Jamsetjee said.
The suspect was transferred to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, Brown said.
The San Diego Police Department Homicide Unit is investigating.
“We got the security guard and are talking to him. We obviously got a lot of witnesses that we need to talk to, some evidence and video that we are going through,” Brown said.
No other suspects are outstanding.
