The National Retail Federation (NRF) announced that Tony D’Onofrio, president of Sensormatic Solutions, had been inducted into its Ring of Excellence (RoE) at the 2025 NRF PROTECT Awards. The ceremony took place on June 24, 2025, as part of the annual NRF PROTECT conference, where D’Onofrio was honored alongside three of his peers.
The RoE served as the organization’s loss prevention and asset protection “hall of fame,” recognizing exceptional industry leaders who had dedicated their careers to creating safer, more secure retail environments. The defining quality of recipients was that the industry would not be what it was without their contributions. According to the presenting body, there was “no doubt” that D’Onofrio fit the bill.
A veteran of more than thirty years in the retail technology industry, D’Onofrio has made a lasting impression. He prioritizes forward-thinking strategies that address critical challenges for retailers, particularly in the LP space. Under his leadership, Sensormatic Solutions has developed and launched targeted innovations designed to reduce retail loss from source to store, championing a comprehensive, data-driven approach to combating shrink:
1. Next-Generation Technologies
D’Onofrio has led the expansion of Sensormatic Solutions’ portfolio, emphasizing outcome-driven innovation. He has been a driving force behind technologies such as Shrink Analyzer and TrueVUE Cloud, which help retailers understand how merchandise moves across store footprints—contextualizing LP performance and identifying opportunities for improvement.
2. Strategic Partnerships
Under D’Onofrio’s leadership, Sensormatic Solutions has cultivated partnerships with organizations such as Indyme, INEO, and Thruvision to enhance retailers’ LP ecosystems. These collaborations support the creation of comprehensive, enterprise-wide systems that bolster operational resilience and loss prevention.
3. Legislative Engagement
As ORC incidents become more frequent and more violent, Tony has been at the forefront of conversations about proposed advancements to the legislative policies around retail theft. As part of this work, he has contributed to reports and studies on the impact and prevalence of retail crime and delivered remarks at the NRF’s 2023 Fight Retail Crime Day on Capitol Hill.
4. Responsible Retail
D’Onofrio also champions sustainability, leading the development of the SPX AM label, a sustainable solution designed to reduce environmental impact while maintaining precision in loss prevention. The label is over 90 percent plastic-free, made from renewable, FSC-certified materials, manufactured using eco-friendly processes, and packaged in recyclable materials.
5. Retailer Engagement
Believing that collaboration is essential to progress, D’Onofrio embraces a “feet in the street” approach—engaging directly with retailers through global travel, customer-led events, and workshops. He has also advanced Sensormatic Solutions’ Centers of Excellence in Bentonville, Arkansas, and A Coruña, Spain, where retailers and internal teams collaborate to test, refine, and co-develop next-generation innovations.
Above all, D’Onofrio is recognized as a role model in the industry. He consistently demonstrates a customer-first mindset, encouraging his teams to do the same. He understands that retailers’ needs—not technology for its own sake—must drive innovation. His consistent focus on listening to retail partners allows him to shape solutions that address the real challenges retailers face today and into the future.
Over the course of his career, D’Onofrio has been widely recognized for his contributions to loss prevention and retail innovation. He has been named one of the top 100 influencers in retail and technology by leading industry organizations and remains committed to driving positive change across the global retail landscape.
