The Coalition of Law Enforcement and Retail Visits San Antonio

This week, the Coalition of Law Enforcement and Retail (CLEAR) is holding its 8th annual conference in San Antonio, TX, where more than 180 attendees are taking in topics on ORC trends, dark web investigations, traveling ORC crews, civil unrest, gift card fraud, prosecution strategies, legislative updates and a host of topics related to the mission and vision of the public/private partnership.

In addition to the many educational and networking opportunities, attendees are able to meet with a number of different solution providers to learn more about the latest tools and technology available to combat these crimes, improve partnerships and communication, increase safety, and drive results.

2017 awards were presented for outstanding performance on Tuesday. This year’s law enforcement investigator of the year went to DHS Special Agent Johnathan Willis, while the outstanding loss prevention investigations award went to the Abercrombie and Fitch ORC team. Working in collaboration along with numerous other major retailers and law enforcement agencies, this exceptional partnership brought a massive organized retail crime investigation to a conclusion, leading to 22 indictments and an identified loss of $106 million dollars.

This year’s conference will come to a conclusion on Thursday with additional presentations and exhibits, but the opportunities to participate in the Coalition of Law Enforcement and Retail won’t end with this week’s events. CLEAR offers year-round opportunities for retail loss prevention and the law enforcement community to work together as we face the ongoing challenges of organized retail crime and other incidents that impact our businesses and our communities.

The Coalition of Law Enforcement and Retail was founded in November 2008 to encourage mutual cooperation between all law enforcement agencies and retail corporations throughout the United States toward the goal of detection, prevention, and investigation of property crimes and the apprehension of perpetrators involved in organized retail crime, fencing of stolen property, cargo theft, identity theft and fraud, burglary, theft, and organized property crime schemes.
