Chris Manning was director of loss prevention and national security for Wendy’s International, Inc. from September 1997 to May 2018. He currently is a security and loss prevention consultant with Britcan Consulting based in Ohio.
In March 2005 police were called to a California restaurant to investigate a woman’s allegation that she had found a partial human finger in a bowl of chili. Over the next days and weeks, a hoax perpetrated against Wendy’s became national news, coffee-break conversation, and fodder for late-night comedians. The learnings from this event are still relevant today.
