“This year’s conference promises to be our best ever,” said Curt Crum, president of the Coalition of Law Enforcement and Retail (CLEAR). The national organization’s ninth annual training event will take place October 8—11 at the Crown Reef Beach Resort in Myrtle Beach, SC.
The CLEAR Conference is still on track. Hurricane Florence had minimal impact on the conference hotel, and they expect to be fully operational for the event.
Headlining this year’s agenda is an active shooter presentation on the event and learnings from the horrendous 2016 Pulse nightclub terrorist attack, with two members of the Orlando Police Department SWAT team who responded that night making a two-hour presentation.
On June 12, 2016, the club was the scene of one of the worst mass shootings by a single gunman in US history when a man entered the nightclub with an assault rifle and a handgun and began firing. The scene soon turned into a hostage situation before the suspect himself was killed. Police say the gunman also had an explosive device. 49 people were killed, and 53 additional people were injured.
Active shooter incidents pose a threat to every business and every community. By embracing the opportunity to learn from the experts charged with dealing with these tragic events, we’re offered unique insights that can help us mitigate the impact of future events-and perhaps avoid them from happening altogether.
This year’s CLEAR Conference agenda features an outstanding lineup of speakers and topics, to include:
- Federal Resources in Organized Retail Crime (ORC) Investigations
- ORC Case Building: Trends, Resources, & Tools
- Opioids and Retail Crime
- Interviewing External Subjects
- A Pawnshop Investigation Case Study
- A Major ORC Case Study
- Leading Private Sector and Law Enforcement ORC Teams
- E-Commerce Online Investigations
- A Legislative Update
- The Cycle and Flow of Large-Scale Product Diversion
- Advancements in Credit Card Fraud and Identity Theft Investigations
In addition to these presentations, the three-day conference will include numerous networking opportunities as well as an exhibition hall showcasing products and services to aid ORC and retail theft investigations.
All members of retail and law enforcement are invited to attend. Attendees can earn CEU credits for CFI and LPC certifications through the International Association of Interviewers and the Loss Prevention Foundation.
