Reveal, the London-based global supplier of body-worn video technology, has announced the launch of the R1, a next-generation body camera designed specifically to enhance safety and transparency for retail staff.
Building on the widely adopted Calla camera—first developed in 2017 and now used by retailers around the world to deter abuse and de-escalate conflict—the R1 delivers enhanced safety features, smarter connectivity, greater durability, and customizable branding options to meet the demands of today’s retail environments.
To support store teams as an overt deterrent and means of managing challenging interactions during their whole shift, the R1 offers up to ten hours of continuous recording on a single charge. With a customizable pre-record buffer of up to two minutes, the R1 ensures critical moments can be captured even before recording is activated. A discreet SOS button enables instant alerts to control rooms or alarm receiving centers via Wi-Fi to DEMS 360, Reveal’s evidence management platform, thereby helping to expedite support in the event of an incident. With built-in Wi-Fi for wireless uploading, and Bluetooth awareness, the R1 is optimized for modern, connected retail spaces. The R1 also has an AI-ready chipset to support future capabilities like facial recognition and fall detection.
The R1 includes the signature features that have made Reveal cameras trusted by frontline teams—most notably the front-facing screen, which acts as an overt deterrent, enhances transparency, and helps diffuse tension by making people aware they are being recorded. The distinctive red slider switch allows for instant recording, even under stress, and a variety of mounting options ensures flexibility across roles and uniforms.
The R1 retains the same compact, wearable format as Calla—measuring just 2.24″ × 1.69″ × 0.76″ and weighing 2.05 oz—yet introduces a number of design improvements for added durability and usability. These include enhanced screen materials, a more robust slider switch, improved magnet casing, and IP67-rated protection against water and dust. It’s also available in white, yellow, and black, allowing retailers to tailor visibility to their environment, while the display can be customized with static or animated graphics to support branding or privacy messaging.
