Hanwha Techwin America Takes HD Compression to Higher Levels

From SMBs to enterprise-level organizations, end users are discovering the advantages of H.265 compression technology, available in HanwhaTechwin America’s newest video surveillance solutions, the Wisenet PSeries and Q Series. The combination of Hanwha’s WiseStream Technology and H.265 reportedly deliver compression which significantly reduces bandwidth and storage requirements, effectively reducing overall costs while increasing surveillance system performance.

“Hanwha is in a unique position to deliver technology innovations as a result of our organic design and product development capabilities which directly translate into overall higher performance, enhanced quality and more functionality for users’ systems,” said Tom Cook, vice president of sales, Hanwha Techwin America. “This is exemplified in our exclusive implementation of H.265 and WiseStream compression across our extensive new and forthcoming product lines.”

Hanwha is one of the first in the industry to incorporate H.265 compression into its products. H.265 reportedly expands the efficiencies of H.264 compression standard by generating high-quality images in small video files. The H.265 codec makes 4K and other higher-resolution video more accessible for security applications by improving image quality and lowering bandwidth and storage requirements.

H.265 reportedly offers significant improvements over previous codecs, including a 50 percent improvement in bit rate compared to the H.264 codec –drastically reducing bandwidth and storage requirements. Other improvements in H.265 technology that improve picture quality include flexible macro blocking from a minimum of 8 x 8 pixels to the maximum of 64 x 64 pixels and reduced video latency.

Hanwha’s latest surveillance introductions – the high-performance P Series and the cost-efficient, high-quality Q Series – employ a triple codec that enables simultaneous streaming of H.265, H.264 and MJPEG formats. This allows video to be recorded and viewed in different formats and facilitates seamless integration with third-party systems that do not yet support H.265. As a result, users can deploy the latest innovations in camera technology from Hanwha now with seamless migration to H.265 when widespread support is provided.

Additionally, by applying Hanwha’s WiseStream technology to H.265 and H.264, users can reportedly benefit from significantly reduced bandwidth consumption and storage requirements. WiseStream automatically and dynamically identifies and generates high-quality images of areas of motion within a scene while applying greater compression to background areas. WiseStream can also dynamically adjust the I-Frame interval of video depending on the scene, motion present and network activity.

For example, the 4K/UHD Wisenet P Series supports WiseStream and H.265 coding technology to provide large images for video surveillance using the same data bandwidth as a 1080p full HD legacy system using H.264 coding.

“The lower bandwidth and storage requirements provided by Hanwha’s unique combination of WiseStream technology and H.265 allows more cameras to be deployed on existing infrastructure, which ultimately increases situational awareness. This is a huge benefit relative to improving overall security and reducing costs from both the end-users’ and integrators’ perspectives,” said Cook.
