Off-Duty Officer Fires at Shoplifting Suspect’s Vehicle

On Wednesday, the Omaha Police Department (OPD) said an off-duty officer shot at the vehicle of a shoplifting suspect who was trying to make off with stolen goods.

The incident occurred at the Home Depot at 144th and Maple Streets at about 6:46 PM

Witnesses at the scene said the officer identified himself to the suspect as he fled the store and jumped into an SUV in the parking lot. When the vehicle drove toward the officer, witnesses said the officer shot at the tire of the vehicle and not at anyone in it.
