An Akron man accused of stealing more than $183 worth of items from the Elyria Walmart and threatening a store employee while yelling that he was an FBI agent and “owned” Walmart is in custody, police said.
Quandon Mango, 49, was arrested on a felony robbery charge and a misdemeanor charge of resisting arrest. He was taken to Lorain County Jail, where he was being held without bond pending court appearances.
According to an Elyria police report, officers were called to the Walmart at 1000 Chestnut Commons Drive shortly before 2 p.m. Aug. 29 for a report of a theft by a Black male wearing all camouflage clothing who was last seen leaving southbound on foot.
When police confronted him, they say Mango put his hands in his pants pockets and refused to take them out, yelling that he was an “FBI agent.” An officer grabbed both of Mango’s wrists and pulled them up, asking about what happened at Walmart.
“I own Walmart,” Mango yelled, according to the police report.
Officers say they had to wrestle Mango’s hands from his pockets to get him into custody, finding only a wallet in his right front pocket.
As they patted him down, they found Walmart garment tags still attached to the clothes he was wearing. Mango yelled “I swiped my card” a number of times but did not have a receipt.
The head of store security said Mango walked into the store acting suspiciously, took several clothing items through the self-checkout line and swiped his card numerous times without the transactions going through.
He then walked into the bathroom and came out wearing all new merchandise after leaving his own clothing in the bathroom, store security said. Confronted by store security, he allegedly acted aggressively and said “If you don’t get out of my face, I’m gonna punch you…” The Chronicle
