Shoplifter Charged with Second-Degree Murder

Wichita police have arrested 22-year-old Jessica Sanders on a charge of Second Degree Murder in this case. Police say, at around 12:20 PM Sunday, officers were called to a shoplifting case at the Quik Trip in the 700 block of S. Broadway.

An officer found Sanders walking in the area of Orme and Market, but as he approached her, he saw her fire a single shot from a handgun into the ground. Police say the officer told her to stop, but she ignored him and continued to walk away. She then walked into a home in the 800 block of S. Market. As officers worked to contact her inside the home, they found a man inside who was dead with a gunshot wound to his upper body. Investigators are still working to confirm the identity of the man.

Sanders was arrested without incident after the SWAT team was called in to assist. Investigators say Sanders shot the man one time inside the house, killing him. Officers did recover a handgun from the home and say this was not a random incident. Police say Sanders acted erratically during the investigation, and they believe she was under the influence of illegal narcotics…  KWCH12 News
