The investigation started on December 8, 2020 when Lincoln Police were called to Cost at 1620 Pine Lake Road for a shoplifting. Officers spoke with loss prevention who reported a man and a woman had loaded up a cart with electronics, clothing and personal items. The man pushed the cart out of the store without paying for items while the woman pretended to look for a receipt stating they had paid. The total loss was over $3,000.
The man and a different woman returned on December 17th and again filled up a cart. Police were called when employees recognized the man as the same person who took items without paying for them on December 8th. When officers arrived they saw the man running from the store with staff running after him. Costco Loss Prevention reports that there was $2,600 worth of items that had been put in a cart and pushed out of the store. Officers pulled up to his vehicle with their lights on but he was able to put it in reverse and take off. Police chased him for a short time before ending the pursuit due to dangerous driving conditions. Through store video surveillance they identified the suspect as 53-year-old Andrew Adams.
Adams had an active warrant and was wanted on for fleeing to avoid arrest on January 26, 2020 and from shoplifting $2,000 at Best Buy in October of 2020.
On January 6, 2021, officers tried to contact Adams who was in a vehicle at 1st and A Street. When he saw officers he took off at a high rate of speed. Officers did not pursue him due to safety.
On March 30th, just before 9 PM, a warrant was served at 19th and Ammon Avenue. Adams was found in the residence and he was taken into custody. Adams was arrested for three counts of felony shoplifting and two warrants, one for flee to avoid arrest and the other for driving under suspension.
