While most retailers see a huge uptick in credit card transactions during the holidays, cash is still king, especially in discount stores, convenience stores, grocery, and pharmacy. This is also one of the busiest times of the year for people trying to pass off counterfeit cash. The featured speakers for this session include:

Richelle Stento

Richelle Stento, Senior Financial Institution Policy Analyst, Currency Education Program. The Currency Education Program, managed by the Federal Reserve Board, is tasked with ensuring the integrity of and trust in the U.S. dollar by providing information and training resources to the public. Richelle has been with the Federal Reserve Board for more than 11 years working first in the National Information Center (part of the FRB) and the last 3-plus years with the Currency Education Program (CEP). Leading Domestic Stakeholder Outreach and Engagement for the CEP, she engages with priority stakeholder groups such as financial institutions, retail, gaming/casinos, and law enforcement while providing resources and training materials on U.S. currency.

Carla Jo Rupert

Carla Jo Rupert, Counterfeit Specialist / Document Analyst with the U.S. Secret Service: Carla has been working for the federal government for over 25 years, starting her federal career with the Drug Enforcement Administration as a Chemist specializing in Drug Chemistry Examination before moving to the US Air Force where she worked in environmental chemistry. Rupert joined the Counterfeit Forensic Section of the United States Secret Service in 2015 and specializes in the authentication of US currency where she currently provides technical expertise to field offices regarding counterfeit investigations; examines forensic evidence in ongoing cases; issues forensic reports and provides expert testimony. She regularly trains law enforcement entities and financial institutions both in the US and internationally in the recognition of genuine and counterfeit U.S. Currency and participates in adversarial analysis, forensic research, and technology development projects for new families of US currency in coordination with the Federal Reserve Board and Bureau of Engraving and Printing.
