ON-DEMAND: Tracy Walder, The Unexpected Spy, at LPM Spring Fling

Tracy Walder

A former Staff Operations Officer at the CIA’s Counterterrorism Center and a Special Agent at the FBI’s Los Angeles Field Office specializing in Chinese counterintelligence operations, Tracy Walder’s story is both fascinating and eye-opening. In this presentation at the March 2021 LPM Spring Fling virtual event, she shares details of her experience from the attacks of September 11th working in the CIA Vault through the invasion of Iraq, while also illuminating her experiences as a woman in a male-dominated field both abroad and at home. For example, how does a female debrief and earn the trust of al-Qaeda’s top men―Jihadists who swore they’d never speak to a woman, particularly an American woman.

Apart from her experience with the CIA and FBI, Tracy Walder is currently an adjunct professor of criminal justice at Texas Christian University and on the board of directors for Girl Security, a non-profit, non-partisan group that brings national security curriculum to girls in high school throughout the US. Previously, she has taught high school history and government courses at Hockaday School in Dallas. She completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Southern California and holds a Master of Education degree from Chapman University.
