The National Retail Federation 2016 Dream BIG Scholarship Program

If you love working in retail, and are looking for exciting opportunities to enhance your career within the retail industry, invest in yourself and learn more about the 2016 Dream BIG scholarship program. Last year three loss prevention professionals—Tim Hall with 7-Eleven, James Ostag with Macy’s, Inc., and Julie Brandenburg-Horn with the Kroger Company—were among the 20 scholarship recipients as part of the 2015 Dream BIG program. This year, it could be you!

The National Retail Federation is collaborating with University of Phoenix to award 20 full-tuition scholarships to people in the retail industry who want to enhance their career through education.

Currently in its fourth year, the Dream BIG Scholarship Program was created to provide retail workers with the opportunity to further their education and advance their retail career with a full-tuition scholarship, and to highlight the rewarding and diverse career opportunities that are available within the retail industry. Hundreds of retail workers from companies across the United States apply to Dream BIG each year.

To apply for Dream BIG, applicants need to complete three short essay questions, and submit a resume as well as a letter of recommendation from someone who knows them well and also works in the retail industry.

A Scholarship Selection Committee will choose the most qualified candidates A review committee will then narrow the applications to the top 40 – 50 candidates from among the retail applicants. These candidates will be reviewed by the Dream BIG Executive Judging Committee comprised of retail executives, representatives from NRF, and University of Phoenix.

“Education is an investment we make in ourselves,” says Bob Moraca, vice president of loss prevention for the National Retail Federation. “This is a great opportunity for loss prevention professionals to add to their resume and further their career in the retail loss prevention industry.”

Dream BIG helps employees enhance their retail career through higher education via retail-related undergraduate programs such as business, finance, security and management, or even a master’s degree program with University of Phoenix. Success in retail is the ultimate goal. The stories shared by applicants show that retail is more than just a job; it’s a fulfilling, challenging career path for those who work hard and want to achieve great things.
