Suspect Hit Security Guard as He Fled Scene of Shoplifting in Stolen Jeep

An Evansville man was arrested after police said he hit a security guard with a stolen Jeep as he fled a supermarket where he tried to steal hundreds of dollars worth of items.

Officers were called to the West Side Schnucks around 5:20 p.m. Sunday for a report of a theft in progress, according to a probable cause affidavit from the Evansville Police Department.

While on the way, they learned the vehicle in question had been reported stolen earlier that day. Police located the black Jeep and tried to stop it, but the driver sped away. An officer saw it crash into a utility pole at Egmont Street and South Barker Avenue.

A man, later identified as 50-year-old Robert Parker, escaped from the vehicle but was caught after a foot chase. He was placed in handcuffs and allegedly pushed and kicked the officers who tried to search him. Police said he eventually cooperated…  Courier&Press
