Preliminary investigation revealed that an armed security guard at the location confronted a man that he believed to be shoplifting. The guard noticed a gun in the possession of the suspect and a brief struggle ensued when the guard shot the suspect in the ankle, police said.
A man inside the store at the time told 11 News he heard the security guard repeatedly ask the suspect to drop his weapon. “He dropped the gun in his bag and not on the floor, so (the security guard) proceeded for about another five to six times, where at about the 20th time, he asked the man to drop his weapon before he fired his shot,” the witness said.
