Interview and Interrogation Training: Surround Yourself with the Right People

In this week’s International Association of Interviewers interview and interrogation training tip provided by Wicklander-Zulawski, Brett Ward, CFI, divisional vice president of client relations and business development for WZ, stresses the importance of surrounding yourself with the right people.

One of most important things you can do in your career is surround yourself with successful people. But it may be necessary to define what success is. Often, people come up to me in workshops to say that they have a 100 percent confession rate. I usually congratulate them, but the first thing I think is, “Are you working all cases with evidence?”

I’m inclined to lean towards people who are humble. Who are hungry for education. People who are thorough and disciplined and willing to share their history and life lessons that they’ve learned and the failures along the way, versus those who have a tendency to want to tell you how good they are at certain things.

Don’t surround yourself with people who want to brag. Surround yourself with people who want to mentor.
