Walgreens announced this week that it will close five San Francisco stores due to the organized retail crime surge in the area. This is in addition to the 17 stores the retailer has closed in recent years.

Woman Arrested After Shooting a Shoplifter in Phoenix
A woman in Phoenix left a shoplifter with serious injuries after shooting him in a convenience store. The shoplifter was transported to a hospital, while the shooter was booked for aggravated assault.

NYC Businesses Call for Change
The NYPD says that shoplifting from January through September of this year is about 6,000 cases higher compared to all of last year. Government officials are worried this wave of crime will drive major chain stores out of the city, and are looking for solutions.

Participant in Aggressive Retail Theft Ring Sentenced for Gun Fight
A Connecticut man was sentenced to 18 months in prison for possessing a gun with an obliterated serial number in a gunfight. This sentence will run consecutive to a six-month prison term for his involvement in an aggressive, large-scale retail theft ring.
