Police said a civilian helped stop a pair of accused shoplifters from leaving a Northampton County (Pennsylvania) shopping center with more than $1,000 worth of merchandise.
Bethlehem Township police were dispatched to Walmart off Route 191 on March 11 for a report of a shoplifting in progress. Several witnesses told police that Orlando D. Rodriguez ran out of the store with a shopping cart full of merchandise accompanied by Luis D. Rodriguez-Morales and a 3-year-old child, according to court records.
Police said the shopping cart of merchandise included two TVs, two body pillows, five impact drivers, two hand vacuums, four reciprocating saws and other hand tools, totaling $1,215, according to records.
Authorities said Rodriguez jumped behind the wheel of a Mercedes SUV and tried to flee. As he tried to get away, police said civilian pulled in behind Rodriguez’s vehicle to keep him from getting away.
