A 47-year-old Thomasville man was charged with two counts of shoplifting after he was seen on video removing large bottles of liquid laundry detergent from two stores. The combined value of the detergent is $245, said Major Wade Glover, Thomasville Police Department public information officer.
An employee at Dollar General on East Jackson Street told police a man entered the store and walked around in a suspicious manner late Sunday afternoon. The employee confronted the man, who said he was waiting for his wife to arrive.
The man had a shopping cart containing 10 large bottles of Gain and Tide liquid detergent. The employee soon realized the man had left the store with the detergent, a TPD incident report states.
Surveillance video showed the man leaving the store 30 minutes after he entered the business, driving a silver or gray Dodge Ram truck. About the same time, an employee at Family Dollar on West Jackson Street notified police about a man entering the business early Saturday evening. The employee told officers the man had a shopping cart that contained large bottles of Gain and Tide laundry detergent near the street entrance.
The incident report states the man did not pay for the detergent. Store video showed the man placing the merchandise in the bed of a gray Dodge Ram truck.”He just rolls out of the store,” Glover said.
On Monday afternoon, an officer on patrol saw a gray Dodge Ram truck at 323 Grady St. and recognized Jamie Hargrove, who lives at the address, from store videos. Glover said the suspect, when arrested, was wearing the same shirt he was wearing in the store videos. Additional charges might be coming as the investigation progresses, Glover said.
