The Oklahoma Medical Examiner’s Office has released the cause of death for an Oklahoma City grocery store manager who died following an altercation with a shoplifting suspect. An autopsy shows that 36-year-old Lester Barry died of acute cardiac arrhythmia due to hypertensive and atherosclerotic heart disease. The report also says that the sudden death was due to physical exertion from Barry “subduing the fleeing suspect”. His death is listed as a homicide.
On June 26, police were called to Crest Foods after loss prevention personnel and employees had gotten into a fight with a shoplifting suspect. A loss prevention associate told police that 34-year old Dajuan Wilson was confronted for the crime and had made threats towards them. The associate then tased the man and an altercation ensued. During the altercation, employees, including Barry, assisted LP in taking Wilson into custody. Barry was speaking to police following the altercation when he collapsed and become unresponsive. He was transported to a local hospital, where he died. Wilson is expected to be in court this week. [Source: Fox25 News]
