A Georgia woman was in jail, arrested on theft and fraud charges involving roughly $30,000, according to the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office. Marshelle M. Grimes, 46, was arrested Wednesday and is charged with one count of first-degree theft and 10 counts of fraudulent use of a credit or debit card. She was being held in Lawrence County Jail in lieu of $55,000 bail, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Sheriff Max Sanders said the arrest followed a report from a local business that a credit card belonging to it was being used without the businesses’ knowledge or permission at a convenience store in Lawrence County. Grimes, who is a veteran member of the Red Bank Volunteer Fire Department, was a cashier at the convenience store, and authorities said they determined she’d taken about $30,000 over a couple of months, the Sheriff’s Office said.
