This is an update to a story we brought to you in yesterday’s Insider: Wichita police say two teenagers have been arrested in connection to Monday’s shooting of a Menards loss prevention associate. Officer Charley Davidson said Wednesday afternoon that the 18-year-old male involved was arrested in Hays. He had last been spotted at around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday getting into a car in southeast Wichita. Police tried to stop him, but he took off in the car, a stolen light blue Toyota Camry with a personalized tag, “1NAMLLN.” Officers pursued the vehicle but later disregarded the chase due to speed and traffic. Police considered him armed and dangerous.
The other suspect, a 17-year-old girl, crashed a stolen Mercedes in Derby on Tuesday. She was hospitalized and later booked into the juvenile detention center for aggravated battery, auto theft and flee and elude. The suspects’ names were not released. The shooting at Menards happened Monday afternoon at the store at 37th and Maize Road. Police say the 34-year-old loss prevention associate observed the suspects exit the store with a home surveillance system without paying. When the couple got outside, the LP associate tried to stop them and got into a struggle with the female suspect. The male suspect then shot the associate in the stomach and the suspects drove off in the stolen Mercedes. The LP associate was treated at a local hospital and released. [Source: KAKE News]
