Suspect Pulls out Pellet Gun during Shoplifting; Says ‘You’re Lucky I Didn’t Shoot You’

23-year-old Joshua Slate was charged with theft of merchandise and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after he attempted to shoplift from Academy Sports and then pointed a pellet gun at staff saying “you’re lucky that I didn’t shoot you.”

On March 19th, Loss Prevention at Academy Sports found Joshua Slate shoplifting inside their location. Loss Prevention approached Joshua after he passed all points of sale and recovered multiple items Joshua concealed in a bag. After the items were recovered, Joshua started to leave the establishment but turned around and brandished a black firearm from his waistband and stated, “you’re lucky that I didn’t shoot you.”

Joshua then fled on foot toward Walmart down Gallatin Pike. Police located Joshua and he was taken into custody without incident. Police found a black pellet gun that resembled a black semi-auto SIG Sauer pistol in his waistband.
