Suspect Accused of Stealing Speakers, Striking Employee with Car and Fleeing Police

A 38-year-old Norwich (Connecticut) man with a long criminal record was arrested this week in connection with stealing speakers from a city store, hitting an employee with a vehicle and later fleeing from police in a stolen car, police said.

Jason Bort, of 204 Scotland Road #C5, was charged on Tuesday with second-degree assault, second-degree robbery, sixth-degree larceny, breach of peace, interfering with an officer, third-degree larceny, disobeying the signal of an officer and several motor vehicle violations – all alleged crimes stemming from December incidents, police said.

Police at approximately 4:18 PM on December 13 were called to the Surplus Unlimited store at 381 W. Main St. for a report of a larceny. An employee told police a man, later identified as Bort, along with a 25-year-old female, were seen stealing a cartload of speakers.
