State Probes Police Shooting of Shoplifting Suspect

Three Ohio police officers have been placed on administrative leave while the shooting death of a shoplifting suspect is investigated, authorities said.

Police in Trotwood, near Dayton, said officers were called to a gas station at about 10:15 PM Friday on a shoplifting complaint and found the suspect nearby at the entrance to an apartment complex. They said he struck an officer and was hit with pepper spray before fleeing to an apartment.

Police said they were waiting for additional units when the man emerged from the apartment with a knife in his hand and was shot. The officers immediately gave him CPR but he died, police said.
