Shoplifting Suspects Who Struck Police Officer with Car Indicted

A Cuyahoga County grand jury indicted a man and woman accused of striking a North Olmsted (Ohio) police officer with a stolen SUV after they shoplifted from stores in Great Northern Mall area.

Jamal Samhan, 25, of Lakewood and Kristalyn Marcum, 21, of Hinckley were arrested at a Cleveland home February 17 and are charged with felonious assault, aggravated robbery, robbery, receiving stolen property, failure to comply with order, signal of police officer, criminal damaging and petty theft, court records say.

Police said that the duo struck North Olmsted police officer Robert Briesath February 13 with a stolen 2020 Kia Sportage. Briesath, who was off-duty at the time of the incident, is back to work on light duty, police said. Briesath confronted the duo that day as they tried to leave the mall parking lot. The SUV struck the officer before speeding away, police said.
