What started as a routine shoplifting arrest earlier this month led police to finding a loaded handgun and heroin, authorities said. Police arrested Jessica Calvani, 34, and Jeffrey Galarza, 35, both of Raymond, New Hampshire, on July 7, Police Chief Richard DiPersio said Tuesday.
Initially, both Calvani and Galarza were arrested at Walmart and charged with shoplifting. They also had Lawrence District Court warrants for drug possession, the chief said. Both were booked at the police station that night and charged with shoplifting. Galarza was also charged with misleading police. Both were released without bail to appear in court on a later date.
Police then made a discovery in their car when they searched it in the Walmart parking lot prior to it being towed, DiPersio said. “We learned there was a firearm in their car,” DiPersio said. Once an officer saw the gun in the storage flap on the side of the door, they applied for a search warrant. Police found a loaded handgun, as well as a second loaded magazine. They also found bags of heroin and drug pipes, DiPersio said.
“Unfortunately, they had already been released so they weren’t charged that night,” he said. Because of the discovery, police have additional charged Calvani, who is the owner of the car, with the unlawful possession of a firearm, improper storage of a firearm, possession of ammunition without an FID card, and distribution of heroin… Metro West Daily News
