Police, Retailers Team up to Stop Shoplifters

The Kearney (Nebraska) Police Department is teaming up with local retailers to decrease the number of thefts in the area, and catch those sticky fingers in the act. Captain Mike Young, Kearney Police Department, said they’ve made 129 arrests this year for shoplifting. He said that’s a large number for a community the size of Kearney.

To get those numbers down, KPD and local retailers have formed the Retail Loss Prevention Team. Retailers meet with law enforcement about once a month, and work together to identify theft trends they see in their stores. Some of them include crimes like price switching, or someone stealing from multiple stores in one go.
