Police Officer Hit by Accused Shoplifter’s Vehicle

In Tennessee, an officer with Berry Hill Police is recovering from minor injuries Monday night after he was hit by a shoplifting suspect’s vehicle. Berry Hill was helping Vanderbilt Police respond to reports of a shoplifter near 100 Oaks when the Berry Hill officer was struck. He is now being evaluated at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

According to court documents, police saw Lamonterrio Murphy fleeing the scene of the shoplifting on foot. He then got into a red Chevrolet Camaro with an accomplice to flee police. Murphy put the vehicle in drive and hit the officer. The second suspect got away from police. No suspect description has been given. Murphy was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, financial responsibility violation with injury for driving without insurance and driving on a suspended license.
