Man dead after officer-involved shooting at convenience store in Oklahoma

Law enforcement officers shot and killed a 27-year-old man at a Poteau, Oklahoma convenience store early Tuesday after they say he refused to drop a knife he was holding to a clerk’s throat.

A LeFlore County sheriff’s deputy and a Poteau police officer responded about 4:45 a.m. to the E-Z Mart convenience store in the 1200 block of North Broadway Street and saw the man holding the clerk at knife point, according to an Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation news release. Each fired one shot, and the man, later identified as Jaquan Derrick Diijon Thompson, was pronounced dead at the scene, the release states.

The clerk, a 44-year-old woman, was unharmed. Tulsa World
