Five women from Chicago were each sentenced recently to five years in prison in connection with a shoplifting spree that authorities said stretched from Illinois to Georgia before ending last year with their arrest in Elizabethtown, Kentucky.
Antoinette Avant, 33; Kimberly Coffer, 45; Casha Jackson, 38; Kanissha Price, 29; and Elena Rios, 25, were arrested last December in Elizabethtown and accused of stealing more than $25,000 of merchandise across several states.
Hardin Circuit Court Judge Kent Howard handed down the same five-year sentence to all five women, who each appeared in court at different dates from late July through early September to hear their punishments.
The women ended up facing the same three felony charges — engaging in organized crime, receiving stolen property $10,000 or more and theft by unlawful taking/shoplifting more than $500 but less than $10,000, according to court records.
Howard gave a concurrent sentence of five years in prison for the three charges, which would have otherwise totaled 11 years in prison, according to court records.
