January 2024 Officer of the Month Announced

The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (NLEOMF) has announced Sergeant Abel Hernandez of the West Covina (CA) Police Department as their Officer of the Month for January 2024. Sergeant Hernandez was selected for his actions when he unknowingly interrupted an armed robbery at a local 7-11 and managed to apprehend the suspect.

On the evening of January 22, 2024, Sgt. Hernandez walked into a local 7-11 and found himself in the middle of an armed robbery. His quick thinking and actions by being in the right place at the right time resulted in the apprehension of the perpetrator with no injuries to any of the victims.

“These officers are heroes, and their actions serve to highlight the countless acts of valor which often go unnoticed and without the recognition or fanfare such acts deserve,” said William Alexander, CEO of the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial. “We are humbled and proud to honor Sergeant Hernandez as our Officer of the Month for January 2024.”
