A New York man selling copies of “The Wire,” “The Big Bang Theory,” the Harry Potter movies and other shows and movies didn’t tell buyers that they were getting bootleg copies he bought from overseas sources, federal prosecutors say. Michael K. See, 34, pleaded guilty to wire fraud and copyright infringement. U.S. District Judge Michael Hornak scheduled his sentencing for Oct. 6. From 2010 through 2015, See bought the bootleg copies and then ran ads on eBay to sell them, said Assistant U.S. Attorney Shardul Desai. The total losses from See’s fraud are between $250,000 and $500,000 and the amount of restitution will be about $430,000, Desai said. See faces up to 20 years in prison for the wire fraud and up to five years in prison for the copyright infringement.
